If you're feeling overwhelmed about your SAT prep, I totally get it! Last month, I took a full-length practice test and, let’s just say, I was NOT impressed with my score. It was a huge wake-up call that I needed to change my strategy for the real deal.
So, here’s what I did to improve my SAT practice test strategy:
- Identify Weaknesses: After that shocker of a score, I looked closely at which sections I struggled with the most. Turns out, math was my Achilles' heel. I made a list of specific topics that tripped me up.
- Use Official SAT Practice Tests: I switched to using only official SAT practice tests from the College Board website. These tests are as close as you can get to the real thing and really help with familiarizing yourself with the format.
- Create a Study Schedule: This part was crucial. I planned study sessions that focused on my weak areas, balancing both math and verbal sections. I aimed for at least two full-length tests before the actual exam.
- Timed Practices: Timing is critical on the SAT, so I practiced under real test conditions. I used a timer and ensured I didn’t skip breaks. This helped me manage my time better during the actual test.
- Review Wrong Answers: After each practice test, I dedicated time to reviewing every single missed question. I made sure I understood why I got it wrong and sought resources to explain any concepts I still found confusing.
The combination of these strategies started showing results on my next practice test. I felt more confident and saw my score climb by a significant margin!
If anyone else is struggling, I’m happy to share more tips or resources. Good luck!
