Hey everyone! So, I just submitted my college applications, and boy, those supplemental essays had me sweating. I thought I’d share some mistakes I made that you should definitely avoid!
- Generic Responses: I initially wrote my essays like they were one-size-fits-all. Big mistake! Each college wants to see how you fit specifically with them.
- Ignoring Word Counts: Don’t get caught in this trap! Stick to the limits they set; it shows you can follow guidelines.
- Lack of Specifics: I started with grand statements but ended up being vague. Use examples from your life to make your points hit home.
- Waiting Until the Last Minute: Procrastination is a major problem! I thought I could wing it, but I ended up rushing through some of my best ideas.
- Not Proofreading: Spelling and grammar mistakes can kill your credibility. I had a friend read mine, and he caught some silly errors.
