I’m trying to figure out how to write a strong personal statement, and every time I draft one it starts sounding weirdly dramatic or super generic. I had this moment yesterday where I reread my intro and thought, no actual human talks like this.
I know a strong personal statement is supposed to feel personal and specific, but I’m stuck between being too formal and oversharing random details that don’t really help.
How did you make yours sound real while still making it impressive? Did you start with one story and build from there, or write the main points first and shape it later?
If anyone has a simple way they approached structure, that would honestly help a lot.
