How I chose between AP and IB for college admissions

Ever felt torn between AP and IB classes when it comes to college admissions? I totally get it! I found myself in that same boat last year. It can be super confusing since both programs have their pros and cons. So, how did I make my decision?

First off, I started by checking the requirements for the colleges I was interested in. Some schools really emphasize AP scores while others seem to favor IB. Knowing that helped narrow my focus. I also talked to my guidance counselor, who provided insights on how both programs might impact my applications.

  • AP Classes: They offer flexibility. You can choose the subjects that interest you most and at your own pace.
  • IB Program: It's rigorous, but it also looks great on applications. It shows you're willing to challenge yourself.

Ultimately, I went with a mix of both. I took AP classes for subjects I was passionate about and enrolled in the IB program for my core subjects. This way, I could balance my workload while still piquing the interest of college admissions.

If you’re in the same situation, I’d definitely recommend researching the specific colleges you want to apply to and maybe even reaching out to current students about their experiences!
