how many AP classes should I take without losing my mind?

It's that time of year again when we start thinking about our course load for senior year. With college applications looming, many of us are wondering how many AP classes we should actually take. While they can boost your chances of admission, is it worth sacrificing your GPA or your sanity?

From my experience, balancing rigor and your mental health is key. If your high school offers a ton of AP options, it can be really overwhelming. Are you really going to stand out with 5 mediocre grades? I personally think it's better to aim for 3-4 solid APs where you can perform well rather than push for 6 and risk damaging your overall GPA.

Also, consider your extracurriculars and personal time. A high GPA with well-rounded activities can make just as strong of a statement as a bunch of AP classes. Remember, colleges also look for passion and commitment, so don’t overload yourself!

Lastly, talk to your guidance counselor or any teachers you trust. They can offer insights into what’s manageable based on your strengths and interests.
