Ideas to explore
- Explain how regular, enjoyable PE can help children build activity habits that may continue beyond school.
- Show why PE alone has limits: food choices and time spent in sedentary activities also shape children’s routines.
- Suggest a combined response: inclusive school activities, practical food education and support for exercise outside school.
Suggested structure
- Introduce the issue and give a qualified position: agree that PE helps, but not that it is sufficient alone.
- Develop the benefits of PE, linking regular participation to fitness, skills and habit formation.
- Explain the limitations of relying only on PE, using diet and non-school activity as relevant factors.
- Offer complementary actions that respond to those limitations.
- Conclude by restating the qualified position and summarising why a broader approach is preferable.

User Essay Analysis

In this rapid pace of contemporary epoch, the modern issue of inadequate physical education is intricately interlaced. This unfortunate trend can be attributed to the fact that the youth of the society are more indulged in the sedentary activities throughout the day. This essay will help them to enlighten the problem and the practical solution will be considered through the opportunities schools can provide.
The advantage of physical education is that it creates time for activity within an ordinary school day. Pupils may encounter activities they would not otherwise try and learn how to participate confidently. A lesson can also make movement accessible to children who lack opportunities outside school. Its value is strongest when the activity is inclusive and suitable for different abilities, rather than centred only on pupils who already enjoy competitive sport.
Nevertheless, adding lessons does not determine what happens during the rest of the week. The school needs appropriate spaces, staff and a realistic timetable. If extra periods are poorly organised or discourage participation, the number of lessons is a weak measure of the benefit. The focus should therefore be on useful opportunities and engagement rather than merely increasing a curriculum total.
The proposal also has limited reach. Adults facing difficulties related to weight are not reached by a change to school timetables. Conditions outside school, including access to everyday activity and affordable food choices, need consideration too. The issue should not be reduced to a judgement about an individual's character or treated as something that one educational intervention can solve for the whole population.
I would include meaningful physical education within a broader approach. Communities can consider safe spaces for ordinary activity, and schools can encourage practical understanding of daily habits without stigmatising pupils. Relevant health support should be available where people need it. These measures address different circumstances rather than assuming that everyone faces the same barrier.
In conclusion, I support better opportunities for activity at school, but I disagree that more lessons are necessarily the best single solution. The quality of teaching, the wider environment and support beyond childhood all matter to the effectiveness of the proposal.
