The map illustrates the changes of infrastructure of the village of Chorleywood which is near London between 1868 and 1994. It is clear that the village has increased as a transport usage for population during more than a hundred year. At that time, the developments are categorized to three groups. First and foremost, the main development was the gradual outward growth of the built-up area. In the earliest period, from 1868 to 1883, buildings were concentrated near the centre. Between 1883 and 1922, the village expanded, especially towards the south. From 1922 to 1970, further development took place on the western and southern sides. A railway was built through the village in 1909, and Chorleywood station was located near the centre. In 1970, a motorway was constructed to the east of the built-up area, meeting a main road at a roundabout. During the final period, from 1970 to 1994, the village expanded further, with several new areas appearing to the north, east and south of the existing settlement. Chorleywood Park and Golf Course lies near the northern part of the village and remained undeveloped.
