The map illustrates the infrastructural improvements of the Chorleywood village that situated near London, whose residents have been increasing in the middle of the 19th century. In general, the transport system categorized into three groups; main roads, motorway, and a rail station. Each group was built at around 126 years in different parts of the village. Overall, the built-up area expanded from a small western cluster to several zones beside the transport routes. In 1868–1883, development was limited to a small area west of the future station, close to a main road. By 1883–1922, building had spread around this central area. The railway, built in 1909, passed through the village, and its station was located near the centre. From 1922 to 1970, development grew substantially on both sides of the railway, especially west and south of the station. The motorway was built in 1970, crossing the northern and eastern parts of the map. In 1970–1994, new areas appeared farther north and east, as well as south of the railway. Overall, later growth was more widely distributed than earlier development.
