Ideas to explore

  • Separate features that remain from those that have been added, relocated or replaced; the business units and car park remain, while the IT centre gives way to an innovation centre.
  • Describe the shift in land use: open grassland in the northwest is now substantially developed, while trees remain in the southwest.
  • Treat transport access as a key change, noting the cycle path, station and bus stop, while also mentioning the railway that continues to border the site.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the maps and identify the time comparison.
  2. Give an overview of the most important changes: redevelopment and improved access.
  3. Describe the 2008 arrangement by area, covering open land and existing facilities.

Band 5.0

The two maps illustrates how a science park was in 2008 and how it is at present. Overall, over a decade, the park have been faced a great deal of changes with an apparent modernization. It is clearly seen that some new facilities have been built while some places are just replaced or reconstructed with the addition of a research and development building, a university hub, an innovation centre, a railway station and a bus stop.

In 2008, grassland occupied much of the northern area, while offices and a reception were located in the northeast. Today, research and development facilities and the university hub occupy much of this northern space, while the offices remain in the northeast; the reception is no longer shown. The business units on the west and the central car park have been retained, as has the cyber security building on the eastern side.

In the southern part, the former IT centre has been replaced by an innovation centre. The railway line still runs along the southern boundary, and a station has been added there. A bus stop is now positioned beside the eastern road, and a cycle path has also been introduced around the central and northern facilities. Overall, the park has become more developed, with its main existing functions retained alongside new research, education and transport facilities.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace the opening overview with a concise summary of the main shift: new research, education and transport facilities, alongside several retained functions.
2
Organise details by location and state what each new feature replaced or whether it remained; for example, compare the former IT centre with today’s innovation centre.
3
Proofread the opening separately for plural subjects, verb agreement and present-perfect forms before checking the map details.
