Ideas to explore

  • Separate features that remain from those that have been added, relocated or replaced; the business units and car park remain, while the IT centre gives way to an innovation centre.
  • Describe the shift in land use: open grassland in the northwest is now substantially developed, while trees remain in the southwest.
  • Treat transport access as a key change, noting the cycle path, station and bus stop, while also mentioning the railway that continues to border the site.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the maps and identify the time comparison.
  2. Give an overview of the most important changes: redevelopment and improved access.
  3. Describe the 2008 arrangement by area, covering open land and existing facilities.
  4. Compare the current layout, highlighting retained and replaced buildings.
  5. Finish with access changes and any transport feature that remains.

Band 4.0

The maps illustrates how a science park transformed over the years ,from 2008 to the present day. Overall , considerable changes underwent in the park over the period , replacing new amenities and facilities such as educational centres where added alongside the existing features . Moreover , the layout of the car park display some notable changes: a station has been added at the southern edge, and the former IT centre has been replaced by an Innovation centre. In 2008, the north-west was mainly grassland, while offices and a reception building stood in the north-east. Today, research and development occupies the north-west, a university hub has been added near the middle of the northern side, and the offices remain in the north-east. The business units are still on the western side, and the Cyber security facility remains in the south-east. The central car park is present in both maps. Woodland remains in several parts of the park, while a bus stop is now marked beside the eastern road. The main road continues to curve around the eastern boundary, and paths connect the car park with nearby buildings. These changes show that the site has become more focused on research, education and transport, while retaining some of its original facilities.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Write a one-sentence overview that names the largest change and the main features that remained, rather than using the vague phrase “considerable changes.”
2
Group the details by map location: describe the northern facilities together, then the car park, southern facilities and transport additions.
3
After drafting, underline each subject and verb in the opening and check agreement, then proofread commas and commonly confused words such as “where” and “were.”
