Ideas to explore

  • Separate features that remain from those that have been added, relocated or replaced; the business units and car park remain, while the IT centre gives way to an innovation centre.
  • Describe the shift in land use: open grassland in the northwest is now substantially developed, while trees remain in the southwest.
  • Treat transport access as a key change, noting the cycle path, station and bus stop, while also mentioning the railway that continues to border the site.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the maps and identify the time comparison.
  2. Give an overview of the most important changes: redevelopment and improved access.
  3. Describe the 2008 arrangement by area, covering open land and existing facilities.
  4. Compare the current layout, highlighting retained and replaced buildings.
  5. Finish with access changes and any transport feature that remains.

Band 6.0

The provided maps depict the condition the science park in 2008 and now, illsutrating an impressive development of the infrastructure during that time period. Overall, there are some main changes that have altered the science park, which are the establishment of research and development, the extension of cyber security, and the improvement of public transportation. In 2008, the north-western area was largely grassland, while offices and a reception building occupied the north-east. Business units stood to the west of a central car park, and an IT centre was located in the south-west. Cyber security facilities were positioned in the south-east. A railway ran along the southern boundary, and a road followed the eastern edge.

Today, the site has a wider range of facilities. The grassland in the north-west has been replaced by a research and development centre, and a university hub has been added between it and the offices. The business units and car park remain in broadly similar positions, although the former IT centre has become an innovation centre. Cyber security is still in the south-east. In addition, a station has been built beside the railway, while a bus stop is now shown along the eastern road. A cycle path is also marked around the central and eastern part of the site. Thus, the park has shifted from open land and basic work facilities towards research, innovation and improved transport links.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Revise the overview to name the clearest transformations: grassland replaced by research and development, the IT centre becoming an innovation centre, and new transport facilities.
2
Avoid claiming that cyber security expanded unless a clear difference in its mapped size or footprint supports that comparison.
3
Proofread the opening for spelling and sentence structure; a concise “The maps show…” sentence is a reliable starting point.
