Ideas to explore

  • Separate features that remain from those that have been added, relocated or replaced; the business units and car park remain, while the IT centre gives way to an innovation centre.
  • Describe the shift in land use: open grassland in the northwest is now substantially developed, while trees remain in the southwest.
  • Treat transport access as a key change, noting the cycle path, station and bus stop, while also mentioning the railway that continues to border the site.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the maps and identify the time comparison.
  2. Give an overview of the most important changes: redevelopment and improved access.
  3. Describe the 2008 arrangement by area, covering open land and existing facilities.
  4. Compare the current layout, highlighting retained and replaced buildings.
  5. Finish with access changes and any transport feature that remains.

Band 6.0

The provided map illustrates the differences between the park in 2008 and its current state. From an overall perspective, it is clear that the park has undergone significant changes, with the most noticeable being the addition of new buildings, which were erected after 2008. Several buildings have been constructed in previously vacant areas within the park.

In 2008, the business units were in the west-central part of the site, while offices and a reception area stood to the north. A car park occupied the centre, with an IT centre to its southwest and cyber security to the southeast. Much of the north-western area was grassland, and woodland was visible in the south-west. A railway ran along the eastern edge.

Today, the business units and central car park remain. The northern area has been redeveloped: research and development facilities, a university hub and offices are now shown, while the reception is no longer marked. The IT centre has been replaced by an innovation centre, whereas cyber security remains in the southeast. A station has been added along the southern edge, and a bus stop is shown on the east. A cycle path also runs through the northern and eastern parts of the park. Overall, the site has become more developed while retaining some of its original layout.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Make the overview name the main land-use shift: northern grassland has largely given way to new facilities, alongside the replacement of the IT centre.
2
Organise the body by comparing the northern facilities first, then the southern facilities, and finish with the new transport features.
3
Use exact map labels such as “university hub,” “innovation centre,” “station” and “bus stop” instead of relying on broad phrases like “new buildings.”
