Ideas to explore

  • Specialising can provide the depth of knowledge and practical competence required by demanding professional qualifications.
  • Additional subjects can develop transferable abilities, such as communication and collaboration across professional fields.
  • A balanced position is to prioritise core degree requirements while choosing a limited number of useful electives.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce both views and state a clear, qualified opinion.
  2. Explain why students may need to prioritise their main qualification.
  3. Present the benefits of studying beyond the major, supported by a relevant example.
  4. Conclude by defining a practical balance between specialist depth and broader learning.

Band 4.0

There is much debate regarding whether individuals should learn additional subjects, or spend all their time only on main subjects. In my prespective, additional subjects have the potential to give more work choices, as well as, give students skills to be more creative and deep thinking. On the ond hand, learning additional subjects can give students some abilities which their main course does not teach. For example, a student of business can learn English or another language. Then he can talk with customers who come from a different country. A student who learn science can take lessons about communication, so he can explain his work to other people. These skills are useful and can also make university more interesting.

On the other hand, the qualification is the reason many students come to university. Some courses have a lot of work and students need to study hard for their exams. If they add too many subjects they can feel tired and not finish the important work. For instance, people studying medicine must spend time learning about illnesses and treatment. Studying other things cannot replace this knowledge, so the main course needs more attention.

In my view, students should not have to choose only one of these ways for all their education. They can spend most time on the degree and study one additional subject which helps it. Before choosing, they should check how many lessons and assignments they already have. If the extra subject makes their main results worse, it is better to stop it or take it later.

In conclusion, focusing on the qualification is important because students need to learn their field well. But additional subjects can give useful skills and work choices. I support taking them when students can manage the work and do not ignore the main degree.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Develop one example for each view by explaining how the course choice affects the student’s study or work.
2
State the workload condition in the introduction as well as the conclusion so the position remains consistent.
3
Proofread the exact introductory phrases listed in the corrections before adding more complex vocabulary.
