Anyone else searching for TOEFL reading tips for high score and getting super generic advice? I finally got past that plateau by changing how I practiced.
What worked for me was stopping the habit of reading every line carefully. On test day, I skimmed the intro sentence of each paragraph, noticed transition words, and then went straight to the questions. I treated the passage like a map instead of a wall of text.
- Wrong answer journal: I wrote why each trap answer was wrong.
- Timed paragraph summaries: 5-7 words per paragraph max.
- Vocabulary in context: I guessed meaning first, then checked.
My reading score improved most when I practiced accuracy first, then speed. Kinda obvious now, but I spent weeks doing the opposite.
