Anyone else spend weeks polishing essays and then realize the common app mistakes to avoid were the boring little things? That was me last fall.
The biggest one I made was inconsistency. My activities list, honors section, and personal statement were all true, but they emphasized totally different versions of me, so the app felt weirdly scattered. I also almost submitted with one supplemental essay naming the wrong school, which is such a classic mistake but happens way too easily when you reuse drafts.
What helped was making a super simple final checklist: read every section in one sitting, check dates/hours, verify school names, and make sure my main themes matched across the whole application.
Not saying my app was perfect, but catching those small Common App errors definitely made it feel a lot stronger.
