Anyone have SAT math tips 2025 that actually made a real difference? I keep searching for SAT math tips 2025 and most of what I find is either super basic or assumes you already have a strong math foundation.
I’m not terrible at math, but on the SAT I keep messing up in really annoying ways: rushing, choosing the wrong approach, and missing easy algebra questions that I probably could do if I slowed down. Then on the harder problems, I sometimes freeze because I’m not sure whether I’m supposed to solve it normally, plug in numbers, use Desmos, or just skip and come back.
My current pattern is basically:
- I do okay on the first chunk of questions
- Then I lose time on 2-3 medium/hard ones
- I start second-guessing
- And I end up with careless mistakes more than actual “I don’t know this concept” mistakes
So I wanted to ask people who’ve improved their math score recently: what changed things for you?
A few specific things I’d really love advice on:
- How do you decide when to use Desmos? I know it’s allowed and useful now, but I feel like I either overuse it or forget it exists. Are there certain question types where it saves the most time?
- Did you focus more on content gaps or test strategy? I honestly can’t tell if I need to review topics like quadratics/functions more deeply, or if I mostly need better pacing and fewer dumb mistakes.
- What was the best way to review missed questions? Just checking the answer hasn’t helped me much. I’m wondering if anyone had a system like writing out why you got it wrong, grouping mistakes by type, redoing questions later, etc.
- How do you avoid careless mistakes when you’re under time pressure? This is probably my biggest issue. I’ll solve for x when the question asked for 2x, or I’ll misread a negative sign, or I’ll get the right setup and then mess up arithmetic.
- Are there any practice resources that felt the most similar to the real test? I’ve done official practice, but I’m not sure how to structure the rest of my prep without just randomly doing questions.
If it helps, my goal isn’t a perfect math score. I’d just like to get from “kind of inconsistent” to actually reliable. Even gaining another 50-80 points would help me a lot.
Also curious if anyone had a turning point where SAT math started feeling more predictable. Right now it still feels like every module goes differently depending on whether I panic halfway through.
If you improved recently, I’d really appreciate hearing what your study routine looked like week to week, not just general advice like “practice more.”
Like did you do timed sets every day? Keep an error log? Memorize certain patterns? Spend more time on Bluebook? Use one strategy for easy questions and another for hard ones?
Would seriously appreciate any specific SAT math tips that worked for you in 2025, especially from people who were stuck in the same score range before improving.
