Last fall I was dead set on applying ED because everyone around me kept saying it boosts your chances, and I kept googling early decision worth it financial aid at like 1 a.m.
What changed my mind was actually running the net price calculator for my ED school and comparing it with a few others. The estimate was way higher than what my family could comfortably do, and since ED is binding unless the aid package is not workable, I realized I would be stressing myself out for months.
I ended up applying EA/Regular instead, and honestly I do not regret it. Having multiple offers gave me way more leverage to compare aid. My personal takeaway: ED is worth it only if the school is truly your first choice and the financial aid estimate looks realistic.
If money is a big factor, I would definitely check the calculator, talk with family early, and be brutally honest with yourself.
