GRE writing tips were weirdly hard to find in a practical way, so here’s what actually helped me. My issue wasn’t grammar, it was writing essays that felt organized under time pressure.
The biggest change: I stopped trying to sound smart and started using the same simple structure every time. Intro with clear position, 2 body paragraphs with one main point each, then a short conclusion. That alone made my GRE writing score more consistent.
Other stuff that helped:
- Spend 3 minutes outlining before typing anything
- Use basic examples if they’re clear instead of forcing fancy ones
- Leave 2 minutes at the end to fix awkward sentences
- Practice timed, because untimed practice gave me false confidence
I also started reading sample essays just to notice structure, not to copy vocabulary. That made a bigger difference than memorizing phrases.
