Putting together my high school resume was way more challenging than I thought. I had no idea what to include and how to format it. Here’s what I learned about what to put on a high school resume that really worked for me.
1. Start with Your Contact Information
Make sure your name, phone number, email, and even your LinkedIn (if you have one) are at the top. Keep it professional!
2. Create a Strong Objective Statement
A brief objective statement (1-2 sentences) at the beginning can help show what you’re aiming for. Try to summarize your career goals and what you bring to the table.
3. Highlight Education
Your education should come next. Include your school name, expected graduation date, GPA (if it’s good!), and any honors received. This shows that you take academics seriously!
4. Showcase Relevant Experience
If you’ve had part-time jobs, internships, or volunteer work, make sure to add them. Even babysitting or a summer camp counselor position can show responsibility and teamwork. Use bullet points to describe what you did in each role.
5. Skills Section
List any relevant skills! Think about things like computer programs, languages, or even interpersonal skills that could set you apart. This is your chance to shine!
6. Extracurricular Activities
Include your involvement in clubs, sports, and other activities. This not only shows you’re well-rounded but also highlights your commitment and interests.
7. Keep It Concise
A resume should ideally be one page long, especially for high school students. Make sure every word counts and that there’s no fluff!
In the end, I realized that framing my experiences in a way that speaks to what I’m aiming for helped so much. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or feedback too! It really makes a difference. Good luck!
