If you’re stuck on how to write why this college essay, did anyone else realize the problem is usually being way too general? The tip that helped me most was this: pick 2 specific things about the college and explain why they fit you, not just why they’re impressive.
I started using this mini formula:
- 1 academic reason
- 1 campus/community reason
- 1 sentence connecting both to my goals or personality
What made my draft better was cutting anything I could copy-paste into another school’s essay. If the sentence works for 10 colleges, it probably doesn’t belong.
Also, I stopped trying to flatter the school and wrote more about what I would actually do there.
