I felt pretty overwhelmed when I first started looking up information, especially since some programs are still asking for it while others are going GRE-optional. My friend, who’s applying this year, totally ditched the test and got into her top choice, but I’m not sure that’s the route I should take.

Many schools are shifting their requirements based on the field of study and the background of applicants. The science and engineering programs seemed to still lean heavily on GRE scores, while social sciences and humanities were much more flexible.
Here’s my take: don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. Do some research on the specific programs you’re interested in. You might also want to consider factors like GPA, work experience, or even recommendation letters, which really seem to be gaining importance in a lot of applications.
