Starting my Common App essay was a challenge until I realized I didn't need a fancy hook. I just laid out my story flat, like I was chatting with a buddy. I focused on what truly mattered to me, and that made it easier to find the engaging details that naturally pulled readers in.
Once I had my story down, I could pick out the parts that sparkled and move those up to the top. Sometimes, less is more!
