SAT math tips 2025 were basically all over my search history because I was doing okay on content, but my score kept dropping from tiny mistakes and bad pacing. What finally helped was treating Math like a pattern game instead of just grinding random questions.
The biggest change: I started an error log that was actually specific. Not just “careless mistake,” but stuff like forgot units, solved for x when they wanted x+2, rushed the last 5 questions, or did not translate the word problem correctly. After like 4 practice sets, I realized most of my misses were the same 3 habits repeating.
A few things that worked for me:
- Do the easy questions fast, but not reckless. I stopped double-checking the first 8 questions forever and saved that energy for the harder middle/end ones.
- Underline what the question is asking for. This sounds basic, but it saved me so many points.
- Memorize the common trap setups. Percent change, systems, exponent rules, and weirdly worded geometry got me a lot.
- Use Desmos on purpose. Not for every problem, but for checking intersections, graph behavior, and whether my algebra answer even made sense.
- Review right answers too. Sometimes I got questions correct for the wrong reason, which is honestly dangerous on test day.
I also stopped doing full-length math sections every single day. For me, 15-20 targeted questions + review was way better than burning out. My math score went up 70 points once I got more disciplined with review.
If anyone wants, I can also share the categories I used in my error log because that part helped more than any random formula sheet.
