I took a Bluebook practice test last weekend and had one of those super annoying moments where I changed like 4 answers in the Reading and Writing section from right to wrong. So now I’m looking for actual SAT reading and writing tips that help with accuracy, not just generic “practice more” advice.
My main issue is that I can usually narrow it down to 2 choices, but then I start second-guessing the simpler answer because it feels too obvious. This happens a lot on grammar/punctuation questions and the short reading passage ones where two answers seem basically the same.
A few things I’m trying already:
- doing timed sets instead of full tests every time
- keeping an error log
- forcing myself to find the exact word in the passage that proves an answer
But I’m still stuck in that range where my score moves a little and then drops again.
If anyone has solid SAT reading and writing tips, especially for:
- stopping answer changes that hurt your score
- grammar rules that show up the most
- transition/organization questions
- how you review missed questions without wasting time
please share what actually worked for you. Did you memorize rules first, drill question types, or just do tons of practice? I’m aiming to improve pretty fast over the next month, so I’d love advice that’s realistic and not a 3-hour-a-day study plan.
