I was losing the most points on the SAT because I kept changing right answers to wrong ones, so these SAT reading and writing tips are the ones that actually helped me calm down and score more consistently.
For Reading, I started forcing myself to answer from the passage, not from vibes. If I couldn’t point to the line that proved it, I treated the choice like it was probably wrong.
For Writing, I stopped reading every answer choice first. I read the sentence, tried to predict the fix, then checked the options. That made grammar questions way faster.
- Do easiest questions first and mark time traps
- Watch for extreme words like always or never
- On transitions, read one sentence before and after
- If two choices mean basically the same thing, both are usually wrong
Biggest tip: review why your wrong answers were tempting. That helped me more than just taking more practice tests.
