Has anyone else searched TOEFL vs IELTS which is easier and still felt more confused after reading a bunch of answers? I took both this year, and for me the honest answer was: neither is easier overall, but one can feel way easier depending on your personality.
My experience was that TOEFL felt more predictable. Everything was on the computer, the timing was super clear, and I liked knowing exactly what kind of tasks were coming. If you are okay typing fast and speaking into a microphone, TOEFL felt less awkward for me.
IELTS was different. The speaking section with a real person sounded better in theory, but I actually got more nervous because I could see the examiner reacting and I started overthinking everything. At the same time, IELTS listening felt a little more natural to me than TOEFL lectures.
The biggest difference for me was energy. TOEFL felt more academic and mentally tiring, especially reading and listening. IELTS felt shorter and more human, but also less controlled because of the face-to-face speaking part.
If someone asked me TOEFL vs IELTS which is easier, I would say:
- Choose TOEFL if you like structure, typing, and computer-based tasks
- Choose IELTS if you communicate better in real conversations and want slightly less academic listening/reading
I ended up scoring better on TOEFL, mostly because the format matched how I think under pressure. So for me TOEFL was easier, but not because the English itself was easier.
