Trying to figure out when to apply early decision vs early action is honestly confusing me more than writing the actual supplements. I get the basic rules, but the strategy part feels way less clear.
My situation is: I have one top-choice school that I really love, but it is still a reach, and I would need pretty significant financial aid. That is what makes ED feel scary to me. I know people say ED can give you a boost, but I cannot tell if that boost is actually worth giving up the chance to compare aid offers later.
On the other hand, EA seems safer because it keeps options open, but then I keep wondering if I would regret not using ED on the school I care most about.
So for people who already went through this, how did you decide?
- Did you only do ED if the school was clearly your first choice and the net price calculator looked realistic?
- If you needed aid, did that automatically push you toward EA or Regular Decision?
- Is the ED acceptance boost actually meaningful for most applicants, or is it kind of overstated?
- Would it be smarter to use EA schools to get an early result first, then just focus on RD for the reach?
I am trying to make a real application plan instead of just applying based on vibes, so I would really appreciate hearing how other people thought this through.
