What to put on high school resume was weirdly hard for me at first because I kept thinking I needed a million awards or internships, and I definitely did not. What finally helped was realizing a high school resume is mostly about showing effort, consistency, and what you actually spent time doing.
I redid mine recently, and this is the basic structure that worked way better than trying to sound impressive:
- Contact info — name, email, phone, city/state
- Education — school name, graduation year, GPA if it helps
- Activities — clubs, sports, student council, music, anything real
- Work/volunteering — part-time jobs, tutoring, babysitting, community stuff
- Projects — this helped me a lot since I did not have formal experience
- Skills — only specific ones, like Canva, Google Sheets, coding basics, bilingual, etc.
The biggest change I made was adding bullets that showed impact instead of just listing the thing. So instead of Member of debate club, I wrote stuff like competed in 4 local tournaments and helped newer members prep cases. Even small things sounded stronger when I explained what I actually did.
I also stopped leaving off normal high school stuff. A teacher told me colleges/jobs know we are in high school, so things like family responsibilities, school clubs, church volunteering, helping run events, or consistent babysitting can absolutely go on there if they show responsibility.
What made mine look better was not adding more sections. It was making each bullet more specific.
If you are stuck on what to put on a high school resume, I would honestly make a messy list first of everything you have done in the last 2-3 years, even if it feels minor. Then group it after. That helped me way more than staring at a blank template.
If anyone wants, I can also share the bullet formula I used because that part made the biggest difference.
