When is Early Decision Worth It? My Journey

So, I’ve been going back and forth about whether to apply early decision (ED) or early action (EA). My dream school is legit my top pick, but I keep stressing about the financial aid aspect. For a while, I thought ED might be the way to go, since they say it boosts your chances, but then I freaked out about how I would manage if the aid didn’t cover everything.

After a lot of research and chatting with friends, I finally figured out my strategy. Here’s what worked for me:

  • Evaluate Financial Aid: Check how generous your school is with aid because if they’re known to give good packages, maybe it’s safer to go ED.
  • Acceptance Rate: Look at the difference in acceptance rates. Some schools really do give an edge to ED applicants.
  • Back-Up Plan: Decide if you have schools that you can apply to EA that you know you’ll be happy with, just in case things don’t go as planned.

Ultimately, it’s about balancing your dream versus what you can realistically afford. I’m feeling better about my choice now, but what do you guys think? When did you know early decision was right for you?
