When's the Right Time to Ask for a Recommendation Letter?

I was totally clueless about when to ask for recommendation letters for grad school. After talking to some friends and doing a bit of digging, I figured out a few things that really helped me.

First off, timing is everything. You definitely don't want to wait until the last minute. Ideally, ask at least 4-6 weeks before the deadline. This gives your recommenders enough time to write a thoughtful letter. I found that sending a polite reminder a week before the due date also helped keep my application on their radar!

Also, make sure to approach the right people. Look for professors or supervisors who know your work and can speak to your strengths. A generic letter won't stand out. The stronger your relationship, the better your letter will be!

Lastly, don't be shy about providing them with your resume or a list of accomplishments. It helps them to write something specific and impactful. If you have a great story or a project that really highlights your skills, share that too!

Hope this helps! Good luck to everyone on their applications!
