Ideas to explore

  • Highlight the main transformation: a central seating and table area in the earlier plan gives way to a layout with more specialised facilities.
  • Compare how the east side changes from children's and adult non-fiction books plus an enquiry desk to a lecture room, an information desk, self-service machines and a café.
  • Track the west side from media, adult fiction and a reading room to storytelling, children's fiction, reference books and a computer room; note that the entrance stays centrally located.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the two plans and give an overview of the most significant changes and any feature that remains.
  2. Describe the earlier layout, grouping rooms by side or by upper, middle and lower sections.
  3. Describe the current layout using the same spatial framework so the reader can compare positions.
  4. Finish with a concise summary of how the library's range of facilities has changed.

Band 6.0

The presented illustration of two maps does demonstrate plan of a Central bibliotheca comparing with two decades ago and now present. Overall, the library has been updated to include dedicated spaces for events and now has open space in the centre. It could be plainly viewed that the main main building of the library is arranged differently. Twenty years ago, the central area contained tables and chairs, with the entrance directly below it. The upper-left section was used for CDs, videos and computer games, while children's books were on the upper right. Adult fiction and non-fiction occupied the middle sections on the left and right, respectively. At the bottom, a reading room was on the left, opposite an enquiry desk.

Today, the entrance remains in the centre of the southern side, but the tables and chairs have been removed, leaving a more open central area. The upper-left part now has sofas and a space for storytelling events, with children's fiction books below. On the upper right, the former children's-book area has become a lecture room, and adult fiction is now located below it. An information desk and self-service machines have been added further down on the right. The lower-left area now contains all reference books and a computer room, while a café occupies the lower-right section. Overall, the library's functions have shifted from collections and reading facilities to a wider mix of study and event spaces.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Write a one-sentence overview that identifies the removal of the central tables and the addition of event and study facilities.
2
Describe each plan in a consistent route, such as upper sections, middle sections and lower sections, and compare corresponding locations.
3
Proofread the opening for article use, natural word choice and repeated words; replace “bibliotheca” with “library.”
