The pie charts provide information on energy generation by different type of resource in the United Kingdom in 2014 and 2018. Overall, it is evident from the chart that the proportion of coal increased, while renewables’ percentage decreased over the whole research period. As to the detail, the figure for coal declined significantly to 18.1% in 2018, down from 28.4% in 2014. This was the largest change among the fuel sources shown. By contrast, renewables rose from 15.0% to 26.2%, an increase of 11.2 percentage points, and became the second-largest source in 2018. Gas remained unchanged at 30.1% in both years and was the biggest contributor in each chart. Nuclear accounted for 22.5% in 2014, then edged down to 21.6% four years later. Oil and other fuels made up the smallest share, at 4.0% in both years. Overall, the data show that generation shifted away from coal towards renewables, while gas and oil/other were stable and nuclear changed only slightly. These figures also show that the overall mix changed notably during this four-year period.
