Band 6.0

The pie chart illuminates energy generation by different types of fuels including fossil fuels, and alternative energy in the UK in 2014 and 2018. Overall, expect to the percentage of energy produce by renewable energy , nuclear, and coal, the energy generation by gas and oil stay constantly in both years of 2014 and 2018. In 2014, gas was the largest source, at 30.1%, followed by coal at 28.4%. Nuclear accounted for 22.5%, while renewables provided 15.0%; oil and other sources made up the remaining 4.0%. By 2018, renewables had risen to 26.2%, becoming the second-largest category after gas, which remained unchanged at 30.1%. Nuclear edged down slightly to 21.6%, and coal fell substantially to 18.1%. Oil and other fuels again represented 4.0%. Thus, the most notable shift was the increase in renewable energy alongside a marked decline in coal, while gas and oil/other showed no change and nuclear changed only marginally. Overall, the chart indicates a changing mix rather than a rise in every source.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace the opening overview with one complete sentence that identifies the largest category and the main changes: renewables rose, coal fell, and gas stayed the same.
2
Check each figure against the chart and present each year’s categories in a consistent order; include the unchanged 4.0% for oil and other sources.
3
After drafting, read each sentence for a clear subject and verb, then check trend expressions such as “remained constant” and “increased to.”
