Last week I was practicing with a friend and got one of those IELTS speaking part 2 topics 2025 cue cards about describing a person who inspired me. I completely froze for like 10 seconds, even though my English is decent. What helped after that was changing how I practiced, not just doing more topics.
My best tip: don’t memorize full answers. Make a tiny structure you can use for almost any cue card:
- Who/what it is
- When/where
- 2 details or a short story
- Why it matters to you
I started using this with recent IELTS speaking part 2 topics and it made me sound way more natural. Even if the topic changes, the structure stays the same.
A few topic groups I’ve noticed come up a lot:
- describe a person
- describe a place
- describe something you learned
- describe an event you enjoyed
- describe an object you use a lot
What I did was prepare flexible ideas instead of perfect scripts. For example, one story about my school festival could fit an event topic, a person topic, or even a time I was happy. That saved me.
Also, during the 1 minute prep, I now write only 4-5 words, like:
friend / college / helped me settle / funny story / grateful
That stops me from reading in my head and sounding robotic.
If you’re using lists of IELTS speaking part 2 topics 2025, try this: pick 10 cue cards, group them by theme, and practice speaking for 90 seconds first, then 2 minutes. The jump feels easier that way.
This was honestly the fastest improvement for me in speaking.
