What’s your name

Sample answer

So let me start from the fact that my name is Merrick. And, actually, right now, I am fifteen years old, but I'm, somehow, I'm evoked about that because of the fact that when I want to head out anywhere, my age is somehow a barrier.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer starts with the name, then adds age and explains why it matters, so the ideas have a basic progression. However, the shift to age moves beyond the question, and repeated wording such as “somehow” makes the development less direct in the text. Practise a 20-second response: say your name first, add one relevant detail, then stop and check that each sentence supports your main point.

Lexical Resource

Everyday phrases such as “head out” and “my age is somehow a barrier” communicate the general idea of wanting to go out but feeling restricted. The main limitation is “I’m evoked about that”: “evoked” does not clearly express a feeling here, so the listener may not understand the intended meaning. Choose a precise emotion, such as “frustrated,” if that matches what you mean.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

The answer includes a clear basic clause in “my name is Merrick” and a reason introduced by “because.” However, “I’m, somehow, I’m evoked about that” is not a well-formed sentence, and “start from the fact that” adds unnecessary complexity. Practise joining the age and barrier ideas in one simple sentence, for example: “I’m fifteen, and sometimes my age feels like a barrier when I want to go out.”

Pronunciation

No recording was provided, so pronunciation cannot be assessed; this practice guide is not an assessment of a recording. Practise the word stress in “Merrick” and “fifteen,” then say the answer in thought groups: “My name is Merrick / I’m fifteen years old / and sometimes my age feels like a barrier.” Record yourself once, check that each group is easy to follow, and repeat while keeping the key words clear.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Answer the name question immediately with “My name is Merrick,” then include only one brief extra detail if you want to extend your response.
  • Replace “evoked” with the exact feeling you intend, such as “frustrated” or “concerned,” rather than leaving the emotion unclear.
  • Practise saying the answer in three thought groups—name, age, and age-related barrier—and record a 20-second version to check that the ideas connect clearly.
