When do you usually get up in the morning?

Source-reported band score · 42 words

Sample answer

Most of the time, I wake up early at 5 AM. The sunrise is beautiful to see, and the peaceful calm of early morning is refreshing. So I always try to wake up early. It's a great way to start the day.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer follows a clear sequence: it gives the usual wake-up time, explains the appeal of the sunrise and quiet, then ends with the benefit of starting the day well. The repeated idea in “I wake up early” and “try to wake up early” slightly limits development, though the response stays relevant and easy to follow. Practise a 30-second answer using this sequence: time, one sensory detail, its effect, and a concise concluding benefit.

Lexical Resource

The vocabulary is clear and relevant: “sunrise,” “peaceful calm,” and “refreshing” communicate why early mornings appeal to you. The wording is natural overall, but “early” is repeated several times and “peaceful calm” expresses closely related ideas. As a refinement, use a small range of precise alternatives, such as “quiet” or “stillness,” and choose one strong description rather than stacking similar words.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

The sentences are grammatically controlled, including the compound sentence joined with “and” and the result introduced by “So.” The present simple suits a routine, and “It’s a great way to start the day” is a clear concluding sentence. Most structures are straightforward, however. For added range, you could connect the reason more compactly with a clause such as “because I enjoy the sunrise,” while keeping the same accurate tense and meaning.

Pronunciation

This is a text-only response, so pronunciation cannot be assessed; this practice guide is not an assessment of a recording. Practise the word stress in “beautiful” and “refreshing,” and group the answer into thought groups: “I wake up early at 5 AM / The sunrise is beautiful to see / …”. Record one reading, check that each phrase is easy to understand, and compare a second reading after practising the stress and grouping.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Keep the specific time, then move directly to your reason: the sunrise and the calm atmosphere.
  • Avoid repeating “wake up early”; use “get up” or refer to “that routine” the next time you mention it.
  • Practise a 30-second version with one detail about the morning, one feeling it gives you, and a brief conclusion.
