Band 6.0

Dear Priya, I hope you are doing well with your studies and in general. I am writing this to respond to your request to help you out with your college project on how new year is celebrated in different countries. As you know I am from India. In India, we have a special meaning to New Year, as it is a time to welcome fresh beginnings and spend time with family. People in India celebrate it in different ways because the country has many cultures and calendars. In many places, families decorate homes, wear new clothes, prepare special food, visit relatives and exchange greetings. Some attend prayers or community events, while in cities people may enjoy music and fireworks at midnight on December 31. Customs vary from one region to another.

What I like most is the hope and togetherness. Relatives who live far away call or send messages to wish each other happiness for the year ahead. I enjoy seeing homes decorated and sharing a meal with my family. These traditions make the celebration warm and memorable.

I hope this helps with your project. Let me know if you need more information, and tell me about celebrations in other countries.

Best wishes, [Your name]

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace “we have a special meaning to New Year” with a natural construction such as “New Year has special meaning in India.”
2
Add a comma after introductory phrases, as in “As you know, I am from India,” and check other sentence openings for the same pattern.
3
Make the customs paragraph easier to follow by grouping family activities together and then mentioning public or community celebrations.
