Band 6.0

Dear John, I’m writing to you about the new year celebrations in my country to help with your project. You can feel free to pop around my place this weekend if you want to talk more about it. As you know, I’m from India. We have a spectrum of culture and heritage there and it is home to people with many languages, religions and traditions. New Year is important to many people because it represents a fresh beginning and gives families a reason to spend time together. The way it is celebrated can differ from one region to another, as India has several cultural traditions and calendars.

In many cities, people celebrate on 31 December. They decorate their homes, meet friends and relatives, and attend parties or public events. At midnight, people often watch fireworks, listen to music and wish one another a happy new year. Some also make resolutions for the coming year. In other parts of the country, people celebrate traditional New Year festivals at different times of the year. Families may wear new clothes, visit places of worship and share special meals.

What I like most is the cheerful atmosphere. I enjoy seeing relatives and friends together, and I like that the occasion gives people hope for a better year. I hope this helps with your project. Write back if you need any more details.

Best wishes, Your friend

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Add one accurate regional example of a New Year festival or custom in India, and make clear that it is not universal across the country.
2
Replace “a spectrum of culture and heritage” with a natural phrase such as “a rich range of cultures and traditions.”
3
Separate the invitation from the cultural explanation with a short linking sentence, then check capitalization in greetings such as “Happy New Year.”
