Ideas to explore

  • Parents shape social values through repeated everyday examples and guidance tailored to a child’s behaviour.
  • Schools let children practise cooperation, conflict resolution and respect among peers with different perspectives.
  • A balanced argument can assign parents the primary role while explaining how schools reinforce and extend lessons from home.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the debate and state your position clearly.
  2. Explain the case for parents, supported by a specific example of modelling or guidance.
  3. Explain what schools contribute through peer interaction and structured learning.
  4. Give your judgement on which role is primary and why.
  5. Conclude by showing how cooperation between families and schools benefits children.

Band 6.0

Some people believe that juveniles should be taught by their parents about how to become good members of the community, while others claim that they can only learn this ethics in educational centers. Parents, I believe, play an important role to teach some life lessons and ethics that help the local community. The primary reason is that parents spend a great deal of time with their children and can teach them through daily examples. For instance, parents can encourage children to share with siblings, speak politely to neighbours and take responsibility for their actions. These habits can become part of a child’s behaviour from an early age.

On the other hand, schools also have an important role because children learn alongside people from different backgrounds. Teachers can explain rules, fairness and cooperation, and group activities give students a chance to practise these values. Schools can also help children understand how their actions affect a wider community, rather than only their family. However, teachers may not be able to give each student the same personal attention as parents.

In my view, parents are the most important first teachers, but schools should support what children learn at home. Parents provide regular guidance and set an example, while schools offer opportunities to work with others and learn shared rules. If both teach similar values, children are more likely to understand and follow them in different situations.

In conclusion, both parents and schools can help children become responsible members of society. I believe parents provide the foundation, and schools strengthen it through education and social experience.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace “this ethics” with “these values” and “role to teach” with “role in teaching”; then scan the rest of the opening for article, number and preposition choices.
2
Add one direct comparison in the body paragraphs—for example, explain how a parent’s guidance at home can be practised during school group work.
3
Make each example support a distinct point: use one home example for role-modelling and one school example for cooperation with people from different backgrounds.
