Source-reported band score · 167 words

Sample answer

Yes, I do. Of course, I love my hometown. I'm living in Uzbekistan because it's where most of my friends live and because there are plenty of things to do. The vibrant social life, cultural activities, and close-knit community make my hometown a special place for me. Additionally, it offers a wide array of activities for people of all ages. For example, there are parks where families can enjoy picnics, and there are also sports facilities for those who like to stay active. Moreover, the local markets are filled with fresh produce and handmade goods, which supports our local economy and gives a unique flavor to our community. I also appreciate the rich history and beautiful architecture that can be seen throughout the town. In summary, my hometown is not just a place where I live; it is a place that holds many memories and experiences. I feel fortunate to call it my home, and I believe it has a lot to offer to anyone who visits.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The ideas follow a clear sequence: you answer positively, explain what you value, give examples such as parks and markets, then describe your personal connection. The development is detailed, though “In summary” and “Moreover” make this Part 1 response sound more like a prepared speech than spontaneous conversation. Practise delivering this answer in 45 seconds, keeping the examples you find most natural and connecting them without memorised-sounding transitions.

Lexical Resource

Phrases such as “vibrant social life,” “close-knit community,” and “rich history” give you a varied vocabulary suited to describing a hometown. “A wide array of activities” is also precise, although it repeats the earlier idea “plenty of things to do,” and several expressions make a short personal answer sound formal. Next, keep two or three vivid phrases and replace repeated or formal wording with natural spoken language.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a mix of simple and more complex structures, including “because it’s where most of my friends live” and “where families can enjoy picnics.” The sentence beginning “the local markets” is less clear because “which supports” could refer to plural goods or to the whole preceding idea. For greater precision, make the markets the subject of the next clause: “the markets help support our local economy.”

Pronunciation

This is text only, so pronunciation cannot be assessed; this practice guide is not an assessment of a recording. Practise the word stress in “vibrant social life” and “close-knit community,” and group each phrase as one thought unit. Record yourself reading the answer, replay it, and check that the stressed words are easy to identify and the phrase boundaries make the meaning clear.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Answer the question directly, then choose two reasons you genuinely want to explain rather than listing every feature of the town.
  • Replace formal connectors such as “Moreover” and “In summary” with simple spoken links, or move directly to your next idea.
  • Practise the answer in 45 seconds and listen for repeated meanings, especially the overlap between “plenty of things to do” and “a wide array of activities.”
