What is your favorite food?

Source-reported band score · 207 words

Sample answer

I can say it's bright blue because it makes me calm and confident. From a user's angle, the color of the sky is the same, and it looks so clear. I feel something like relaxation. I feel relaxed, and I can say that even when I am angry or depressed, I will look at the sky and feel better. However, if I talk about my favorite food, I would say it is sushi. Sushi is not only delicious but also very healthy. It is made with rice, fish, and vegetables, which makes it a balanced meal. I enjoy the variety of flavors and textures that sushi offers. For example, the combination of soft rice and fresh fish creates a unique taste experience. I also appreciate how sushi is presented. It often looks like a work of art, with vibrant colors and creative arrangements. When I eat sushi, I feel like I am indulging in something special. Moreover, sushi can be enjoyed in many different settings, from casual takeout to fancy restaurants. I often go with friends to try new types of sushi rolls. Overall, sushi is my favorite food because it is not only tasty but also brings me joy and satisfaction every time I eat it.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer develops the sushi preference well: it gives reasons, describes ingredients and presentation, and ends with personal enjoyment. However, it opens with several sentences about the sky and colour, then switches to food with “However,” so the response initially loses focus on the question. Practise a 30-second version using this answer: begin with sushi, give two reasons and one example, then finish with your overall preference.

Lexical Resource

There is useful topic vocabulary in phrases such as “variety of flavors and textures,” “balanced meal,” and “creative arrangements,” which makes the food description specific. Some wording is less natural or repetitive, particularly “From a user's angle” and “something like relaxation.” For a more fluent spoken answer, replace these with straightforward expressions such as “In my view” and “a sense of calm,” and choose one clear description rather than repeating the same idea.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a good mix of simple and more extended sentences, including the relative clause “which makes it a balanced meal” and the contrast structure “not only delicious but also very healthy.” Most sentences are understandable. The opening contains an unclear comparison in “the color of the sky is the same,” and “I feel” is repeated in close succession. Practise linking each sentence directly to the food topic and vary repeated sentence openings.

Pronunciation

This is a practice guide, not an assessment of a recording; pronunciation cannot be judged from text alone. Practise the word stress in “variety” (va-RI-e-ty) and “vibrant” (VY-brant). Group “I enjoy the variety of flavors and textures” as one thought, then pause before “that sushi offers.” Record yourself reading these phrases and check that the stressed words are clear and the thought groups are easy to follow.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Answer the food question in your first sentence; if you keep the sky detail, connect it briefly to your answer rather than letting it lead the response.
  • Practise a 30-second response with this sequence: name sushi, give two reasons, describe one example, and finish with why it is your favorite.
  • Replace indirect or repetitive phrases such as “I can say” and “something like relaxation” with concise wording, then record and check whether each sentence adds a new detail.
