Band 8.0

The maps depict the transformation of Paradise Island from a scientifically utilized area to a tourist hotspot in the present. In summary, the island underwent many interesting changes, especially the move from plants and trees to new buildings and facilities for visitors. In the center of Paradise Island, the coconut trees have been removed to make way for a hotel complex, a swimming pool and an open restaurant. The former scientific research station has also been removed, and the boat landing on the western shore has been replaced by a cruise-ship terminal beside the pier. The beach remains in the northwest, where swimming is now permitted, while the natural spring in the east and the rocks at the northeastern tip have been retained. A scenic lookout has been added near the rocks, and a café now stands close to the spring. A BBQ area has been introduced between the café and restaurant, while a cycle path runs across the southern part of the island. Overall, the former research-focused island has been substantially developed for tourism, although several natural features and the beach remain.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace the subjective overview phrase “many interesting changes” with a concise summary of the main development: research facilities and vegetation gave way to tourism facilities, while the beach, spring and rocks remained.
2
Group the new facilities by location: describe the hotel, pool and restaurant in the central area, then the café and spring on the east side, and finally the pier and cruise-ship terminal in the southwest.
3
Use precise change verbs throughout: distinguish features that were retained, removed, replaced or added, and avoid suggesting that all vegetation disappeared.
