The provided charts depict the changes in ownership of electrical appliances and the amount of time spent doing housework in households within a specific country over the time period of 1920 to 2019. Overall, the ownership of washing machines, refrigerators, and vacuum cleaners in households steadily increased over the years, with all three reaching near their highest recorded levels by 2019, although the three appliances did not follow identical patterns. In 1920, washing machines were the most common appliance, at 40%, compared with 30% for vacuum cleaners; refrigerators were almost absent. By 1940, washing-machine ownership had climbed to 60%, slightly above vacuum cleaners (50%) and refrigerators (about 55%). Refrigerator ownership then rose sharply to 90% in 1960 and reached 100% by 1980, remaining there. Vacuum cleaner ownership increased more gradually, from 70% in 1960 to 90% in 1980, before reaching 100% in 2000. Washing machines rose to 70% in 1960, dipped to 65% in 1980, and recovered to 75% by 2019. Meanwhile, weekly housework fell overall, from 50 hours per household in 1920 to 35 in 1940 and 20 in 1960. It declined further to 15 hours in 1980, remained unchanged in 2000, and reached 10 hours in 2019.
