Band 7.0

The pictures illustrate how some areas changed at West Park Secondary School between 1950 and 2010. The most noticeable change was just south of the school, such as houses, a playground, a sports field, and a car park. First above, in 1950 there were some point areas in Secondary Schools consisting of houses to the left of the school, alongside the main road. Farmland covered the southwest portion, while a playground was located in the southeast. By 1980, the houses and farmland had disappeared. The school building was in the northeast, and a science block had been added immediately to its west. The former farmland area was divided between a sports field in the southwest and a car park in the northwest; the playground remained in the southeast.

In 2010, the overall layout was broadly similar to that of 1980, although some facilities had been rearranged. The car park occupied most of the western side, extending from the road towards the southern boundary. The science block stood to its east, beside the main school building. The sports field was moved to a smaller area near the centre of the southern edge, while the playground remained in the southeast. Overall, the site changed from having houses and farmland to containing more school facilities, while the playground stayed in the same area.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Replace the unclear opening overview with one sentence stating the main transformation: houses and farmland gave way to additional school and parking facilities, while the playground remained.
2
Compare the layout by year and location: describe the western side, the school buildings, and the southern areas using consistent terms such as northwest and southeast.
3
Before finishing, check every example list and time marker for natural grammar; in particular, avoid “such as” after a clause that does not grammatically introduce examples.
