Band 5.0

The photos illustrate a reconstruction of the West park Secondary School from 1950 to 2010. Overall, location and the size of the main road remained the same and the placement of a playground was similar. However, almost all other park facilities experienced changes, while some were replaced by others. In 1950, vast majority of the school grounds were divided into four main areas. Houses occupied the north-western part, with farmland directly below them. The school building was on the eastern side near the main road, while the playground was in the south-east.

By 1980, houses and farmland had disappeared. A car park took up the western side of the site, and a science block was added between it and the main school building. A sports field replaced the former farmland in the south-west, while playground remained in the south-east.

In 2010, the main school building and playground were still on the eastern side. The science block was positioned just left of the main building. The car park covered most of the western area, and the sports field had become a small area between the car park and playground. Thus, school facilities were reorganized substantially, although the road and the playground's general position remained unchanged.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Write an overview that names the main transformations: houses and farmland were removed, a science block and car park appeared, and the sports field changed in size.
2
Use precise site vocabulary throughout; refer to the “school grounds” or “school facilities,” not “park facilities.”
3
Proofread noun phrases in the completed answer, especially articles before singular nouns and expressions such as “the vast majority.”
