Overall, the data reveals a significant increase in the number of visitors to both the coast and mountains, while the lakes experienced fluctuations, rising sharply before declining by the end of the period.
In 1987, the coast was the most popular area, attracting about 40,000 visitors, compared with 20,000 for the mountains and 10,000 for the lakes. Coastal numbers fell slightly to approximately 35,000 in 1992, then rose steadily, reaching around 50,000 in 1997 and 65,000 in 2002. They finished at roughly 75,000 in 2007.

By contrast, the lakes figure rose from 10,000 to 25,000 in 1992 and 40,000 in 1997, then peaked at around 75,000 in 2002.
