The graph illustrates the number of foreign tourists who visited the coast, mountains, and lakes in a European country over a 20-year period from 1987 to 2007. Overall, the coast was the preferred destination, while the mountains attracted the fewest tourists throughout the period. Both the coast and the lakes saw significant fluctuations in visitor numbers. In 1987, the coast received about 40,000 visitors, twice the figure for the mountains (20,000), while the lakes were least popular at 10,000. The coastal total dipped slightly to 35,000 in 1992, then rose steadily, reaching approximately 50,000 in 1997 and 65,000 in 2002 before finishing at 75,000 in 2007. By contrast, mountain visits increased gradually across the period, from 20,000 to 35,000, with no major changes. The lakes followed a more dramatic pattern: numbers doubled to 20,000 by 1992 and reached 40,000 in 1997. They then surged to a peak of about 75,000 in 2002, briefly overtaking the coast, before falling to 50,000 at the end. The coast nevertheless started and ended highest, although the lakes briefly led in 2002.
