Ideas to explore

  • Physical education can support students’ health and give them a way to manage the stress of academic demands.
  • Cookery teaches practical independence and helps students make informed choices about food.
  • Limited school time supports careful curriculum planning, but does not necessarily justify removing non-academic subjects altogether.

Suggested structure

  1. Introduce the pressure to succeed academically and state clearly whether you agree with removing non-academic subjects.
  2. Explain one benefit of physical education and connect it to students’ wellbeing or development.
  3. Explain one practical benefit of cookery and why it matters beyond the classroom.
  4. Acknowledge limited teaching time and propose balancing subjects instead of eliminating them.
  5. Restate your position and briefly summarise why a broad curriculum is valuable.

Band 4.0

Nowadays at the school has many kind of subjects which are educated and prepared children in future life. Many teachers and parents believe that science and academic subjects important than other lessons. Young people to achieve the succeed have to dedicate big part of their time. That means they have to focus less to non-academic subjects such as physical education and cookery. I partly agree that students need more time for academic study, but I do not agree that these lessons should be removed completely.

Academic subjects are important because children need reading, writing, maths and science for exams and later jobs. If school give more lessons in these areas, students may get better results. Also, some families put a lot pressure on young people, so study time is useful.

However, physical education help children keep healthy and cookery teach them how to prepare simple food. These skills are useful in daily life, and not every child can learn them at home. If schools remove all practical lessons, children may spend the whole day sitting and feel more stress. It can also make school boring for some students, and they may lose interest in learning.

In my opinion, schools should not choose only one type of subject. They can give enough time to main academic classes and keep a small number of non-academic lessons each week. For example, one or two periods of sport and cookery can help students balance their study. Teachers also should explain that success is not only about high marks but includes health and useful life skills.

To conclude, I believe academic subjects need priority because they are important for future opportunities. But physical education and cookery should remain in the syllabus because they teach children important abilities. This is a better way than removing them all.

Targeted Improvement Tips

1
Rewrite the opening as two complete sentences, making the subject and verb explicit in each one.
2
State your view in one direct sentence, then give one developed reason for academic study and one for retaining practical subjects.
3
After drafting, check subject–verb agreement and common combinations such as “prepare children for” and “focus on.”
