do you like your home town

Source-reported band score · 53 words

Sample answer

Definitely. I do like my town that I lived in because it has a variety of activities to do. Even though our town is medium-sized compared to other cities, the things that I love about my hometown is the cozy atmosphere it offers. I can easily get around using any form of transportation.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The ideas follow a clear sequence: you give your opinion with “Definitely,” explain that the town offers activities, contrast its size with its cozy atmosphere, and finish with getting around. The contrast and final point could connect more smoothly. Practise this answer in a 30-second recording: speak once from memory, then check whether each sentence adds a distinct reason or detail and whether the transitions make the progression clear.

Lexical Resource

There is useful topic vocabulary in “a variety of activities,” “medium-sized,” “cozy atmosphere” and “get around.” These choices make the answer specific and easy to follow, though “things to do” and “any form of transportation” are broad. To extend your range naturally, add one precise activity or transport option that is true for you, and practise using it in a short example sentence.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a subordinate clause in “Even though our town is medium-sized” and a relative clause in “town that I lived in,” so the answer is not limited to short simple sentences. However, “the things that I love about my hometown is” has a subject–verb agreement error: “things” takes “are.” For greater accuracy, recast the phrase as “what I love about my hometown is” and check the subject before choosing each verb.

Pronunciation

This is a practice guide, not an assessment of a recording. Practise the word stress in “medium-sized” (MEDium, sized), “cozy atmosphere” (COzy, ATmosphere) and “transportation” (trans-por-TA-tion). Mark thought groups like this: “Even though our town is medium-sized / compared to other cities, / what I love most is its cozy atmosphere.” Record the answer, check that the stressed syllables are clear, and compare it with your marked groups.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Replace “the things that I love ... is” with “what I love ... is” to fix agreement and make the sentence more concise.
  • Add one accurate example of an activity available in your town to support “a variety of activities” without making the answer much longer.
  • Practise linking the size and atmosphere points with “Although” or “Even though,” then finish with the transport detail as a separate benefit.
