What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Source-reported band score · 43 words

Sample answer

Whenever I have free time, I particularly go to the library to spend three or four hours studying in that area and reading some articles or books. I enjoy spending my time there, and this is my schedule whenever I have free time.

Answer analysis

Fluency & Coherence

The answer follows a clear sequence: it names the activity, gives a duration and examples, then repeats that the library is part of your routine. The repeated reference to having free time makes the ending less developed than it could be. Text alone cannot show spoken fluency. Practise this answer in a 30-second recording, aiming to give the activity, details and one concise closing thought without repeating the opening.

Lexical Resource

The vocabulary is relevant and understandable: “studying,” “reading,” “articles or books” and “library” clearly describe the activity. However, the answer relies on a small set of general words and repeats “free time” and “spending.” “Particularly go” is also less natural for describing a regular preference. Next, practise alternatives such as “usually visit” or “make time for,” while keeping the wording natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

You use a longer sentence with an infinitive and gerunds in “to spend three or four hours studying … and reading,” followed by a coordinated sentence. The meaning is clear, and there is no need to treat the basic sentence structure as an error. The main opportunity is to make the long first sentence easier to follow and avoid repeating the same time phrase. Practise dividing the information into two short, connected sentences.

Pronunciation

This is not an assessment of a recording, so pronunciation cannot be rated from the text. For practice, mark the word stress in “particularly” and “articles,” and say the answer in thought groups: “Whenever I have free time / I usually go to the library / to study and read.” Record yourself once, then check that each phrase is easy to understand and that the stressed words are clear; this guide does not assess how you actually sound.

A transcript shows language and organisation. Fluency, delivery and pronunciation require an audio recording; the synthetic voice demonstrates the text, not the original speaker.

  • Replace “particularly go” with “usually go” or another natural expression for a regular habit.
  • Avoid repeating “whenever I have free time”; use the final sentence to add a brief, relevant reason you enjoy the activity, if one is true for you.
  • Practise delivering the answer in three thought groups: activity, duration and activities, then a concise closing statement.

Ideas to explore

  • Explain how an extra lesson after school affects the amount of free time you have.
  • Describe whether your schedule leaves time for hobbies or other activities, without adding activities you do not actually do.
  • Conclude by summarising how full your routine is at the moment.

Suggested structure

  1. Begin with the after-school lesson and where it takes place.
  2. Explain that attending it limits your free time.
  3. Clarify whether you have time for other activities.
  4. End with a brief summary of your current routine.
